Different Ways to Utilize Location Intelligence

How to Utilize Location Intelligence

GeoTagLocation intelligence is a term that refers to the integration of geographical information with other forms of data to improve and enhance the planning and performance of many types of organizations. Location intelligence is essentially a technology that enables businesses, the military, weather forecasters and researchers to find things. These things may be specific landscape features, human demographics or other elements. Location intelligence helps to provide a complete data management system and is utilized in several different ways.

Marketing

Everyone is familiar with direct mail marketing and most people refer to it as ‘junk mail’. The reason that it’s called junk is because most of the messages that are sent don’t apply to the people who get them. In short, the marketing messages are just send as a big blanket, and they are not targeted in any way.

Using location intelligence as part of a larger data management system, businesses have the ability to target their marketing materials so the right messages get to the right people more often.

For the business, more accurate mailings will save money, as they’ll see a better return for each unit that’s mailed. Also, if potential customers come to feel that not everything in their mail box is junk, they’ll be more inclined to read what’s in there and responses will increase as a result.

Growth

Using location intelligence to determine the demographic of a particular area is useful when a particular area is in a growth phase. When regions are growing, new businesses will come along, new hospitals, clinics and shopping malls might need to open, and public transportation might have to be improved or increased.

With effective data management, a city or town can make the right changes and invite the right businesses into the community to serve all of its residents. Libraries, courthouses, post offices can be planned and built in the most effective locations, if they are necessary at all. Big box stores can also use the information to decide whether a new location is required to serve the community.

Military

Military operations are another area where effective data management is a must. Whether running training drills and programs or actually out on the battlefield, location intelligence and data management makes a big difference in how battles are fought and won.

The ability to uncover enemy positions and locate any crucial landmarks along the way can make all the difference between winning and losing, and can drastically minimize casualties. Not many people actually welcome war, but if it is the reality, being prepared is the only way to be.

Research

Universities and other research organizations can utilize location intelligence to further study in virtually any discipline. Data management is crucial for studying the earth or looking for new medical breakthroughs. Using all of the newest technologies, researchers can gain different insight into things they may have seen a thousand times before. There are always going to be things out there that have yet to be discovered, but using location intelligence can help make those numbers smaller.
